2009 + 2010: Inside/Outside
I‘ve been shooting in markets for years, but rarely on the farms where the produce originates. In this small gallery, there‘s a new market, the restored Central Market in Athens, but also a man who grows the sweetest onions in Liguria and the dozens of coffee pickers, who lined up one wet and chilly morning in late October to begin the coffee harvest. These pickers are among the best compensated in Nicaragua, but life is extremely hard and conditions can be difficult. Inside the kitchen at Finca Buenos Aires, where the pickers‘ food is prepared, conditions have been improved. The woodstove, on top of which the tortillas cook, was recently repaired, reducing smoke ash significantly.
